I have been thinking of what to say and how to say it to the community, was gonna make a big ole discord announcement or write a doc up but I just can't be bothered and I feel like we bother people enough already with our pings that get overlooked. So I decided to air it out here and I may link it in an announcement in discord later or separately to anyone who has any questions or wants to ask the questions I outline below:
"why is NSN dead?", "what happened to the server?", "lol merz y the darkrp dead"
I am tired of this question. Even if we had -2 players NSN will never be dead if I am still here. We have banned quite a lot of our regular toxic players and with an IP change and the overall fact that Garry's mod is dying (proof in steam stats) doesn't really have a very happy ending in the grand scheme of things. The people we have banned deserve the ban. taking our appreciation & habits of giving chances for granted is not tolerated and they will stay banned. We have been too lenient and it's taught me many great and horrible things about how humans work and change and grow. There is a line you don't cross and once you've crossed it you have to learn some where else from someone else. It's also incredibly easy for someone who's never had a successful server or even tried their hand at populating a Gmod server to have a silly opinion like this, and not know how much blood sweat and tears goes into it. If I did it all by myself I'd be even more offended but truthfully that isn't the case. I've had help from so many people to make the DarkRP and the overall community better and this is an ode to all of them. All of the combined efforts, all the events, all the content and just overall being friendly and welcoming to the rest of the community making a NSN a unique place to be.
The people that tend to say such things as stated above are mostly people who don't have any intention of getting on and actually enjoying the server but instead want to criticize how our server population has declined. That obviously personally offends me because beyond population we've all grown and changed throughout the two years that NSN has been up. Going through heaps of different staff members and regular players over these years. Nothing has been in ill intent and no time has been wasted. Most of the people that make updates happen and improve the community overall have real life jobs (I know crazy, right) so balancing real life with this community life has been hard and continues to be hard throughout these times.
I am tired of begging people and putting forth an effort to coax people to get on the server, truth be told if it continues to not get populated, eventually the Gmod server WILL shutdown. I don't want that to happen, no one does I am sure. Obviously there wouldn't be a point in keeping it up if no ones interested in playing.
Yes, the DarkRP server's population has declined but NSN as a community remains alive and well and will continue through any struggle.
TL;DR:
Non-Stop Networks was named Non-Stop Networks because I don't intend on giving up. Not now and not any time soon. I named it that to remind me that it's super easy to give up on something and regret it later (as I have done before with Assured Gaming) and this way it holds me accountable to keeping it up and active. Anyone who feels differently or feels like its dead can go find somewhere else to whine about it. If you want it to not be dead, be proactive about it, be active in general and spread our root cause which is to be friendly and respectful to everyone in the community and even outside of the community. If you don't like that, no ones forcing you to stay and no one asked you for the disrespectful comments as stated above. If you want to have a real debate or help fix it, you know where to find me.
